I live in Norway, a country in Scandinavia. Corvettes and other classic cars are one of my greatest interest, and during the summer, I drive a dark blue 79 Corvette.
I´m a member of the Corvette Club Norway, and the American Car Club Norway. By reading books, watching videos and talking with other like minded I have learned a lot about the history of the Corvette and other classic cars.
How did the painting start. I did my first oil
painting back in the seventies, and I can still remember my disappointment when the picture on the canvas did not turn out as I thought. Since then I have learnt a great deal, and throughout the years I have done paintings of boats, houses, people and of course the fantastic nature scenes we have in my part of the country.
Why I make paintings of Corvette and classic cars, and why do they look the way they do. I did my first Corvette painting back in 1993,
and the main reason was my interest in the Corvette and other classic cars. At the time I had no idea of where I wanted to go with that kind of artwork. I did it purely because it gave me the possibility to combine the two passions in my life.
After finishing my first Corvette painting it was quite evident that something was very wrong. The beautiful car looked completely out of place in the painting. Nevertheless, working on the painting
gave me a kick, and I did not want to give up that easily. After doing a bit of
thinking, it was clear that I had to compose the painting differently from my previous works. I had to start nearly from scratch again, filling my head with new thoughts.
The challenge for me was how to use the environment to emphasize the already beautiful cars. The last few years I have been working
hard to achieve this, and my paintings today are very unlike my first Corvette painting from 1993. I feel I am going in the right direction, but as always with art there still is a long way to go. In my close relationship to these cars I believe I have the energy and focus I need to go forward.
The paint process In all my paintings I am using
quality oil colors, and I paint only on canvas. Weeks or months before I am drawing the first line, the paint process starts in my mind. When I have a clear picture of what I want, I start the actual painting. At this time I may not have all the details in my head, but I have the effect of the light, and the colors in relationship with the car, and that is the most important parts in my composition. It can take from two months to a year to make a painting. One of the reasons are that oil colors do not dry over night. My painting process has a lot of steps and layers, and hence I need to wait for the paint to dry between each session.
I will not describe the painting process in details, all artist have their own secrets, and their own way to work.
